Health workers reported eight deaths and 12 injuries in Gaza after Israeli airstrikes hit civilians and displaced families.
Palestinian health officials say Israeli airstrikes have killed at least eight people in Gaza, including a 10-year-old and a 6-year-old child.
Medical workers reported on Wednesday that an Israeli airstrike killed one person near a school in Gaza City. Twelve people were wounded in the two incidents. The Israeli military said it targeted militants in Gaza City but said it had no information on casualties.
Another Israeli airstrike hit a tent set up for displaced people in the al-Mawasi area of Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip, killing at least four people, including a 10-year-old child.
Later Wednesday, Palestinian health officials reported that a six-year-old boy was killed in Israeli fire in the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza City. Another strike west of the city hit a vehicle, killing one person, health workers said, bringing the death toll Wednesday to at least seven. An eighth death was later reported, but further details were not immediately available.
The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the incidents.
The latest deaths come despite Israel and Hamas agreeing to a U.S.-brokered „ceasefire” last October. Although large-scale fighting has largely ceased, Israeli attacks on Palestinians in the area continue.
According to the Gaza Health Ministry, violations by the Israeli army since the ceasefire came into effect have killed at least 1,084 people and injured another 3,491. Including the latest casualties, the total number of deaths in Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza since October has reached at least 73,110, with 173,599 injured, the ministry said.
Israel also expanded its control over the zone by about 11 percent beyond the so-called "yellow line," which marks the areas defined in the ceasefire.
Last week, several UN agencies and NGOs warned that the continued expansion of Israeli-controlled territory was endangering civilians and aid efforts, with dozens of Palestinian families forced to flee their homes near the line.
Meanwhile, the humanitarian situation in the region remains dire. The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in its latest report that almost 9,300 cases of chickenpox have been registered in more than 130 health facilities. „The increase in reported chickenpox cases is occurring in an environment already characterized by severe overcrowding, deteriorating hygiene conditions and widespread environmental health risks,” the report said.
