The defendants are accused of attacking right-wing extremists in Budapest and Erfurt. They have now admitted their participation in the attacks. According to their own admission, they did not intend to kill anyone.

The attacks took place in connection with the „Day of Honor” in Budapest, considered one of the largest far-right gatherings in Europe. The defendants allegedly attacked far-right extremists, in some cases seriously injuring them, during the event.

The defendants from Jena and Leipzig were also charged with forming a criminal organization and aggravated assault. At the start of the trial, they were between 22 and 25 years old and are alleged to be members of the so-called Antifa-East, which the Federal Prosecutor General classifies as a militant left-wing extremist organization. The group is the subject of several trials, including one still ongoing in Dresden and a trial against non-binary person Maja T. in Budapest that has been concluded.

Five young women and one man in court

In the Düsseldorf trial, all defendants vehemently denied any intent to kill. They claimed they did not accept the possibility of the victim's death, and certainly not intentionally. "I considered the possibility of fatal injuries to be completely out of the question," one defendant said. He added that killing people contradicted his conviction.

The Nazis murdered his family members at the time. He actively fought against the resurgence of right-wing extremism in Thuringia. The only male defendant called the attempted murder charge absurd and exposed the political motives of the Federal Prosecutor's Office.

The trial involves five young women and one man, who are accused of committing attacks right-wing extremists against in Budapest and Erfurt, as well as against a Thor Steinar store and the saleswoman working there in Erfurt.

The Federal Prosecutor's Office charges the defendants with attempted murder. They allegedly caused life-threatening injuries to several victims by attacking them with sticks and hammers, including by hitting them in the head. They are accused of accepting the possibility of the victims' deaths. They have also been referred to in the media as the "Hammer Gang.".
