At least five people, including a nine-year-old girl, were killed in an Israeli drone strike and gunfire in Gaza, according to the Gaza Health Ministry.
Tala Abu Matar died when Israeli gunmen opened fire on a refugee camp on the eastern side of the Al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, medical workers said.
Also on Sunday, at least four Palestinians were killed and another wounded in a drone strike on a blacksmith shop in the Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City, officials at Al-Shifa hospital, where the victims were taken, said.
The Israeli army acknowledged that it had struck the area, but without elaborating, it only said that it had targeted "terrorist infrastructure.".
A Palestinian man died of his wounds near the Al-Bureij camp after a shooting on Friday, a health official said. Another Palestinian died of wounds sustained in an Israeli drone strike east of Khan Younis in southern Gaza.
Since October, Israel has extended its control over the enclave beyond the so-called „Yellow Line,” which separates the Israeli-occupied territory from the rest of the Strip under the ceasefire agreement. Last week, the Gaza Government Media Office said that Israeli forces now control about 80 percent of Gaza.
The latest wave of violence coincides with Hamas leaders visiting Cairo for further talks on the second phase of US President Donald Trump's Gaza peace plan.
The talks are about the disarmament of Hamas and the withdrawal of the Israeli army, said sources close to the talks, adding that no breakthrough has been achieved so far.
According to the Health Ministry, at least 73,118 Palestinians have been killed since the start of Israel's genocidal war on Gaza in October 2023.
