Israel has suppressed coverage of its war on Gaza: it has barred the international press and killed hundreds of local journalists.

Israeli authorities have expelled a French journalist who has frequently criticized Israel’s genocidal war against Gaza and its policies in the illegally occupied West Bank.
A spokesperson for the French Foreign Ministry said on Thursday that France supports Alice Froussard, but added that Israel has the legal right to deport her. Israel faces widespread accusations of suppressing press freedom due to its crackdown on media outlets and targeting of journalists.
The official reason for the journalist’s expulsion was not disclosed, but a high-ranking Israeli minister later accused her of supporting Hamas.
Amichai Chikli, Israel’s Minister for Diaspora Affairs, wrote on social media about his delight that „Alice Froussard, a French journalist who supports Hamas and who believes the October 7 massacre must be viewed ’in context,’ has departed from Ben Gurion Airport to return to Paris.”.
The journalist’s expulsion drew attention to Israel’s longstanding efforts to stifle international coverage of the siege of Gaza and the occupation of Lebanon. Although reporters from around the world were prevented from reporting from the Palestinian territories, numerous local journalists were killed in the conflict that began following the Hamas-led attacks on October 7, 2023.
The Foreign Press Association condemned the treatment of Froussard, stating that Israel had already authorized the journalist’s entry into the country prior to her arrival.
„This isn’t the first time the Israeli government has decided that the reporting is ’one-sided,’” their statement said.
Israel has been repeatedly criticized for restricting media coverage of its activities in Gaza. Since the attacks began nearly three years ago, not a single foreign reporter has been allowed to enter the area.
The ban has forced Palestinian journalists to report extensively on their own suffering. Israel is accused of killing hundreds of journalists and media workers in the area to silence the news.
