While international public attention is focused on geopolitical conflicts, systematic terror in the occupied Palestinian territories is claiming the lives of the most vulnerable. On Friday evening in the West Bank city of Hebron (Al-Halíl), Israeli occupation forces opened fire on a Palestinian family’s car. As a result of the attack, one Sam Fahd Abu Haikal, a 7-month-old infant, was shot in the head and died, and his parents were injured.
The incident is shocking in and of itself, but from the perspective of combating disinformation, it is even more important to examine the linguistic and communicative manipulation used by the official propaganda machine of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and the mainstream media are attempting to whitewash the killing of children.
The charming military jargon: „It was perceived that the vehicle was accelerating”
Following the incident, the Israeli military immediately issued a statement that serves as a textbook example of psychological warfare and shifting blame. According to the statement, the soldiers „They felt that a vehicle was speeding toward them” (perceived a vehicle accelerating toward them).
Deconstructing Manipulation:
In military and media communications, the phrase „accelerated toward us” is an implicit accusation. It creates the false impression in the reader’s mind that a car-ramming attack had taken place, and that the armed soldiers were merely acting in „self-defense.”.
In contrast, eyewitness accounts from the scene and reports from the Palestinian media make it clear: the family was simply passing through the neighborhood, and the soldiers without any prior warning, notice, or demand They opened fire on the car.
Dehumanization: „The injured” instead of “the dead”
The way the IDF’s official statement addressed the infant’s death to the international press was particularly cynical. The army stated: „Three Palestinians were injured and taken to receive medical treatment”.

After independent sources and medical reports from the Palestinian Red Crescent made the facts irrefutable, the IDF issued a one-line statement:
„A preliminary investigation found that the injured were bystanders.”
This formulation is the cornerstone of the mechanisms of apartheid in the West Bank. The formula is always the same:

The context the mainstream media is ignoring: The reality of Tel Rumeida
Foreign news agencies portray the incident as an „unfortunate, isolated incident” that occurred in a „dangerous, tense zone.” However, they fail to mention why the zone is tense.
Hebron is the only Palestinian city in the West Bank that Illegal armed Israeli settlers were moved to the city’s geographical center, the historic downtown. The Tel Rumeida neighborhood is surrounded by barbed wire, permanent military checkpoints, and apartheid-style regulations that restrict the movement of the Palestinian population.
For a Palestinian family in Tel Rumeida, getting into a car poses a daily threat to their lives: soldiers may interpret any ordinary movement as a „threat,” and once the trigger is pulled, the propaganda machine immediately springs into action to blame civilian victims for their own deaths.
Conclusion
Sam Fahd Abu Haikal is not merely a „victim of an unfortunate incident.” He is the latest victim of unbridled military repression and the international media propaganda that serves it, which is built on linguistic manipulation.
