Marwan Barghouti's family says the imprisoned Fatah leader was shot in the leg by an Israeli prison guard and then left without medical care for several days.

Jailed Palestinian Fatah leader Marwan Barghouti was wounded and left bleeding after an Israeli prison guard shot him in the leg with a rubber bullet at point-blank range, his family said Monday.
Barghouti informed his lawyer about the violent incident during his visit on Thursday, the official said. The New ArabAbdul Qader Badawi, press officer of the popular movement "Campaign for the Freedom of Marwan Barghouti and All Prisoners".
According to Badawi, four days before the visit, Barghouti's cell door was suddenly opened when a prison guard fired a rubber bullet at his leg at close range, causing severe bleeding.
He did not receive any treatment following the injury and was left without medical care for four to five days, Badawi added.
Arab Barghouti, son of Marwan Barghouti a TNAHe told the Associated Press that the attack was part of a long-running campaign aimed at breaking his father's resolve and ultimately killing him in his prison cell.
Fadwa Barghouti, the imprisoned leader's wife - who is also a lawyer - also confirmed that a prison guard fired a rubber bullet at her husband's leg, causing a painful injury and bleeding.
She described the incident as the latest in a series of ongoing attacks on her husband.
She added that the Israeli Prison Service has also issued a defamatory report against her husband, as the international campaign demanding his release grows stronger.
The campaign, under the slogan "Freedom for Marwan, Freedom for Palestine," has also won the support of international figures and political leaders, and its public and official support is growing worldwide.
His wife added that after 25 years in Israeli prison, Barghouti still holds fast to his belief that freedom is an inalienable right and that the Israeli occupation will eventually end.
He argued that the Israeli report, while seeking to condemn him, acknowledged his influence, political standing and symbolic power, as well as the extent of the international campaign demanding his release.
Earlier this month, Barghouti's office said that Israeli authorities had further tightened the conditions of his solitary confinement.
The member of the Fatah Central Committee has been held in solitary confinement since November 2023 and has been transferred several times between solitary confinement sections of several prisons.
According to his office, the Israeli Prison Service recently imposed harsher conditions on him in the isolation ward of Ganot Prison, describing the move as part of a series of systematic and arbitrary measures against him since the beginning of the Israeli genocide in Gaza.
