The foundations of traditional alliance systems are being shaken by a comprehensive, international public opinion poll conducted by the American Pew Research Center. The data clearly shows that the foreign policy of the State of Israel and the perception of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have sunk to a low point in the eyes of the world's population, which could lead to the diplomatic isolation of the Jewish state in the long term.
The survey – which surveyed more than 44,000 adults in 36 countries – shows a dramatic increase in rejection not only in Muslim-majority states, but also in Western core countries and Far Eastern democracies.
The numbers don't lie: Global rejection
The methodological strength of the research is provided by the representative sample. According to the aggregate median value of the responses of the surveyed countries, the world population 67 percent expresses a negative opinion about Israel, while the proportion of positive attitudes is only At 25 percent stands.
While the peak of negative opinions is naturally found in Muslim-majority countries – in Turkey, for example, 91 percent of the population holds a „very negative” view – the real geopolitical shift is visible in the Western Hemisphere.
Turnaround in the West and East Asia
Based on the data, criticism of Israel has long since ceased to be the preserve of radical political fringes, but has become a mainstream social consensus:
-
North America: In the United States, 60 percent of respondents and 65 percent in Canada have a negative view of the country.
-
Europe: In Sweden and Spain, 78 percent of the population is critical. In the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Italy, the absolute majority of adults gave Israel a negative index.
-
Far East: In Japan, 83 percent of those surveyed, in South Korea 70 percent, and in Australia 79 percent disapprove of Israel's current policies.
The only significant exception to the global trend India, where 32 percent of respondents have a positive and only 28 percent have a negative opinion of the state, which accurately reflects the increasingly close strategic and military partnership between New Delhi and Tel Aviv.
The Netanyahu factor
The research also makes it clear that anti-Israel sentiment cannot be separated from the personality of the political leadership. In the vast majority of the 36 countries studied, the population has little or no confidence Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
His decisions on world political issues are globally rejected; the prime minister's policies are only positively assessed by the majority in two developing countries studied, Kenya and the Philippines.
Conclusions: The collapse of soft power
According to time-series data from the Pew Research Center, the negative trend is not stagnant, but is constantly deepening: in 13 of the 24 countries surveyed, rejection rates continued to rise compared to last year. The only European country where a decrease was registered was Greece.
This statistical reality indicates that Israel is systematically and imperceptibly losing its most important international asset: its soft power (soft power) and social legitimacy. When two-thirds or three-quarters of the voters of allied democratic states judge a country negatively, local governments will sooner or later have to reconsider the unconditional diplomatic and military support provided to Tel Aviv for the sake of their own political survival.
