The psychological and political purpose of this is self-indigenization: the settler population tries to adopt elements of the indigenous culture, to make it appear "native" on earth, while dehumanizing real indigenous people and presenting them as unnecessary aliens.
The Palestinian identity is not a political fad founded in 1967, nor is it a mere byproduct of Zionism. It is an organic reality with deep historical and cultural roots that cannot be erased from history by armed repression or by Frank Luntz-style PR manuals. The denial of the existence of a Palestinian nation is merely the last line of defense of the colonizers – a moral mirage that inevitably evaporates in the face of facts.
