Jerusalem / Budapest – Linda Sarsour, one of the most influential and controversial pro-Palestinian activists in the United States, has been barred from entering Israel. The denial of her entry permit was initiated by Amichai Chikli, the minister responsible for Diaspora affairs and the fight against anti-Semitism, and the decision was enforced by the Immigration and Population Authority.
According to an official statement from the ministry, the measure is consistent with the country’s long-standing policy of taking legal action against foreign nationals who seek to economically and politically isolate the Jewish state.
Crackdown on the boycott movement
In explaining the decision, Amichai Chikli emphasized that Israel will continue to firmly apply the principle that activists who lobby for sanctions must face the consequences of their actions.
„Those who incite against Israel, who support boycotts, or who campaign in favor of them, must be aware that they will not be allowed to enter the country,” the minister said.
In her own social media post, Chikli listed the arguments against Sarsour in detail. She emphasized that the activist is the global BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) one of the movement's leading American figures and a member of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) an organization whose certain internal factions openly celebrated Hamas’s October 7, 2023, terrorist attack against Israeli civilians. According to the minister, Sarsour’s activities—including mobilization efforts on American college campuses and her campaign against technological cooperation between Microsoft and the Israeli Defense Forces — directly serve to „isolate and weaken the Jewish state.”.
Sarsour's response: Standing up against apartheid is my crime
Linda Sarsour responded to the news of her ban on her Instagram page. In her view, the denial of entry is politically motivated, and she is in fact being punished for her consistent advocacy of the Palestinian people’s rights to freedom and self-determination.
In her post, Sarsour sharply criticized the Israeli government, which „brutal apartheid regime” called for this, while also urging the U.S. government to immediately suspend all financial and military aid to Israel. Sarsour and the human rights and Muslim advocacy organizations that support her (such as the MPower Change and the CAIR) believe that their activities constitute legitimate human rights activism, and that the ban is intended to suppress freedom of speech and the right of Americans of Palestinian descent to visit their families.

This case is not an isolated incident, but rather an integral part of an Israeli legal strategy that has been in place for years. The country’s parliament (the Knesset) passed an amendment to the law (the so-called AntiBDS law) that authorizes the Ministry of the Interior to deny visas or entry to any foreign citizen who knowingly and publicly calls for a boycott of the State of Israel or the territories under its control.
The international press—including the Jewish news agency, the JNS – recalls that Sarsour, in 2017, Women’s March She gained national recognition in the United States as one of the main organizers of the "Women's March," and in recent years she has played a key role in leading some of the most influential Palestinian-American lobbying and advocacy networks.
