Saint Levant (birth name) Marwan Abdelhamid) is one of the most defining and iconic figures in contemporary Palestinian cultural resistance and global pop culture. His music, appearance, and political engagement perfectly model the modern, cosmopolitan generation that, instead of traditional political panels, gains visibility for its people through social media, fashion, and catchy tunes.

Its character and art are defined by the following cultural and structural pillars:

1. The multicultural background as a bridge

Marwan was born in Jerusalem in 2000 to a Palestinian-Serbian father and a French-Algerian mother. He spent his childhood in Gaza, then fled to Jordan with his family to escape the tensions of the civil war in 2007, and later studied and founded a business in the United States (Los Angeles). This highly complex identity is reflected in his stage name: „Saint” refers to the Algerian Yves Saint Laurent (due to his passion for fashion and aesthetics), while „Levant” refers to his homeland, the historical Eastern Mediterranean.

2. The musical weapon of „Trilingualism”

One of Saint Levant's greatest trademarks is that in his songs, often within a single verse, or even within a single line, he seamlessly alternates between English, Arabic and French language (the best example of this is the global breakthrough Very Few Friends (hit song).

  • Cultural impact: This is not just a stylistic exercise. With this method, he is able to directly address a Western audience (English/French) while not losing his Middle Eastern roots (Arabic). He elevates the Palestinian narrative into the global mainstream in a way that makes it immediately accessible to Western ears.

3. Nostalgia and modern hybridity

His musical style combines early 2000s R&B and hip-hop (influenced by Timbaland and Justin Timberlake) with traditional Arabic instruments (such as the oud and darbuka) and electronic pop. Many describe his music as „sexy, club-oriented Palestinian pop,” which is a conscious strategy: it moves the Palestinian cause away from its exclusive victimhood and presents a confident, attractive, modern and vibrant cultural identity.

4. Direct political engagement and collective memory

While some of his songs are lighthearted love stories, the backbone of his art is the traumas of Palestinian history and exile.

  • Deira: One of its most important projects is Deira and the album of the same name. "Deira" refers to the hotel in Gaza that his father (an architect) designed and managed, and which was a center of cultural life in Gaza before it was destroyed in the bombings. The song is a memorial to a destroyed home, childhood, and Palestinian built heritage.

  • Social enterprise: Before his musical career, he founded the 2048 Ventures platform, which supports young Arab creators and startups, thereby helping the region's economic and cultural independence.

Saint Levant (who has proven his power on his recent tours and collaborations with Zeyne) is the perfect example of how to soft power (soft power) to put it at the service of political resistance. It shows that Palestinian cultural resistance is no longer isolated, but one of the most defining and trendy cultural trends of the global young generation.
