The state news agency IRNA reported that a firefighter was killed in the attack on Iranshahr airport.

The US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM) said early Thursday that it had „conducted additional strikes against Iran… to further degrade Iran’s ability to attack merchant vessels and innocent civilian mariners in the Strait of Hormuz.” CENTCOM said 90 Iranian military targets were hit, including air defense systems, coastal surveillance assets, missile and drone storage facilities, and naval and logistical infrastructure along the Iranian coast.

Iranian officials told the Fars news agency that a naval control tower and a warehouse were hit in Chabahar. Iranian state media also reported that a railway bridge in Aq Qala was targeted.

Hours after the US attacks, Bahrain was on air alert, and the Kuwaiti Defense Ministry reported that air defenses had intercepted missile and drone attacks. Iran's Revolutionary Guard later said it had attacked two US bases in Kuwait and two in Bahrain, adding that future retaliation could include other US bases in the region if the US continued its attacks. Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesman for the Iranian parliament's National Security Committee, warned the Americans of a "hard slap" on the X.

The United States launched strikes on Tuesday in response to Iranian actions against three merchant ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The Iranian military said in a statement that eight air force and navy personnel were killed in Tuesday's attacks on Bandar Abbas and Bushehr.

Both the US and Iran accuse each other of violating the June Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that ended the war, lifted the US naval blockade and opened the Strait of Hormuz. However, complex issues such as Iran’s nuclear programme and the management of the strait have been postponed for a 60-day negotiation period. The main sticking point is the fifth clause of the agreement, which states that Iran will „use its best efforts to ensure the safe passage of commercial vessels, free of charge, for 60 days.”.

Iran says this provision means that Iran has sole „responsibility for regulating the passage of ships,” allowing them to decide which ships are allowed to pass through—a stance they have used to justify attacks on unauthorized ships.

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the speaker of the Iranian parliament, stated on Wednesday that the Strait of Hormuz "will only open with Iranian regulation, not with American threats.".

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, President Donald Trump did not rule out a return to all-out war. „We hit them very hard, 20 to 1,” he said, adding that every time „they attack us, we hit back 20 times.” Earlier on Wednesday, however, he said he did not believe the war would resume.

The latest strikes have drawn criticism from Trump's political opponents. Progressive Senator Bernie Sanders said a return to war would "cost more lives and waste public funds." Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren also condemned Trump's actions, saying that "war with Iran will cost American lives.".

Trump made further threats at the NATO summit in Ankara: he threatened to restore the naval blockade, target Iran's electricity and water networks - which international lawyers consider a war crime - and even said that US forces could "take control" of Iran's Kharg Island, which would almost certainly require the deployment of ground troops.

A második éjszakai támadássorozat azután történt, hogy Trump kijelentette: a tűzszünetnek „vége”, de jelezte, hogy a tartós békéről szóló tárgyalások folytatódhatnak.
