The petition calls for the removal of the Israeli Medical Association from the World Medical Association for \u201efailure to uphold basic medical ethical standards.\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Calls are growing for the suspension of the Israeli Medical Association (IMA) from the World Medical Association (WMA<\/a>), after more than a thousand people \u2013 including several prominent doctors \u2013 signed a petition demanding the removal of the Israeli body.<\/p>\n

A People's Health Movement<\/a> (People's Health Movement), the Dutch Doctors for Gaza<\/a> (Doctors for Gaza), and the Jewish Voice for Peace<\/a> According to a petition organized by the health section of the Jewish Voice for Peace, PRAYER<\/a> does not adhere to \u201ebasic medical ethical standards, including the Geneva and Tokyo Declarations of the WMA\u201d.<\/p>\n

The petition claims that the IMA is complicit in \u201egrave violations of medical neutrality and human rights\u201d committed by the Israeli government and military.<\/p>\n

They called on the world body to suspend Israel's membership ahead of its general assembly to be held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, in early October.<\/p>\n

The petition has over 1,300 signatories, including several well-known health professionals and organizations such as the Spanish Health Workers for Palestine<\/a>, in the United States Doctors Against Genocide<\/a>, and the Philippines Health Alliance for Democracy.<\/a><\/p>\n

The document notes that Israeli forces have carried out attacks on the healthcare system in Palestine, Lebanon and Iran, and have killed, arrested and obstructed medical professionals in their work.<\/p>\n

The resolution says Israeli medical professionals are complicit in the inhumane treatment of Palestinians in Israeli prisons by failing to document and investigate cases of medical ethics violations over the past three decades.<\/p>\n

They add that Palestinians receive worse health services than Israelis due to Israeli employment and apartheid policies.<\/p>\n

\u201eThe IMA did nothing about the hundreds of thousands killed and wounded in Gaza, or the destruction of the health service there,\u201d they wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201eOn the contrary: by supporting the 80 Israeli doctors who publicly called for the bombing of Gaza hospitals in November 2023, the IMA effectively gave a green light to genocide.\u201d<\/p>\n

The signatories asked the WMA to: South African Medical Association<\/a> and the British Medical Association<\/a> Following his example, sever institutional ties with the IMA.<\/p>\n

The article about the petition, published recently, was published by The Lancet<\/i> <\/a>medical journal, which found that the IMA had not issued a statement that \u201epublicly condemned Israeli attacks on Gaza\u2019s health system, criticized Israeli behavior in the war, called for a ceasefire, or responded to UN reports of genocide against Palestinians.\u201d.<\/p>\n
