The latest debate surrounding the European Union\u2019s economic aid to Palestine\u2014in which loan programs worth hundreds of millions of euros have come under fire\u2014is not merely a financial issue. It is yet another example of how complex geopolitical realities are being transformed into a black-and-white moral narrative, which is often identified in diplomatic discourse as \u201ehasbara\u201d (Israeli public diplomacy efforts).<\/p>\n

The Power of Framing: A Sinful Connection<\/h4>\n

The core of the article is a classic communication technique: the illegal connection<\/b> (guilt by association). The narrative does not claim that EU funds are directly used to purchase weapons, but rather speaks of a \u201etainted\u201d system in which every transaction is suspect.<\/p>\n

Using this method, any form of aid can be delegitimized. If the Palestinian Authority engages in any civilian economic activity alongside the \u201epay for slay\u201d system (benefits provided to convicted terrorists and their families), the narrative holds that the latter also legitimizes terrorism. The logical conclusion, then, is: EU aid = support for terrorism. This framing completely precludes any rational political debate about what tools could be used to achieve economic stability\u2014which could actually counteract radicalization.<\/p>\n

The Trap of Moral Superiority<\/h4>\n

The tone of the article (\u201ehe thinks everyone\u2019s an idiot again\u201d) is moral superiority<\/b> written from his perspective. This narrative frames the situation as a \u201ecivilizational\u201d struggle, in which the other side (the Palestinian leadership) is inherently unacceptable.<\/p>\n

This approach eliminates any room for negotiation. If the other side is \u201ea liar from the start\u201d and \u201epro-terrorist,\u201d then the only form of diplomacy is sanctions and isolation. Hasbara logic does not seek a solution here, but rather aims to convince international public opinion that support for the Palestinian territories is morally untenable.<\/p>\n

Selective blindness: The silence surrounding structural causes<\/h4>\n

The narrative \u2013 the Palestinian Media Watch<\/i> citing its own data, it highlights corruption within the Palestinian Authority and issues with the payment systems, but consistently overlooks the structural causes of the conflict: the economic constraints of the occupation, control over resources, and the complete lack of a political horizon.<\/p>\n

According to the Hasbara narrative, the failures of the Palestinian economy are solely due to internal moral shortcomings. This kind of selective blindness prevents us from seeing that cutting off aid would not eliminate terrorism, but would accelerate social collapse, which in reality would lead to even more instability and violence.<\/p>\n

Why is it important to read critically?<\/h3>\n

When we come across articles like this, it\u2019s worth asking the question: Who stands to gain from having any economic aid provided to the Palestinians classified as \u201eterrorist financing\u201d?<\/b><\/p>\n
