At the level of diplomatic statements, declarations expressing \u201edeep concern\u201d and demanding the protection of holy sites are routine, but in practice these words remain completely empty.<\/p>\n
The regional powers\u2019 own geopolitical priorities, economic interests, and various normalization processes have pushed the effective protection of Jerusalem\u2019s heritage into the background. Diplomatic passivity and the lack of tangible countermeasures effectively give the green light to unilateral changes to the status quo. The silence or mere formal protests of the international community and regional actors assure those seeking to dismantle the status quo that their actions will not have serious international political or economic consequences.<\/p>\n
The current level of tension surrounding Al-Aqsa poses an unprecedented danger because the goals of religious radicalism and official state policy have now become completely aligned. Groups that were previously considered marginal and openly demanded the radical transformation of holy sites have now gained political legitimacy and exert a direct influence on decision-making.<\/p>\n
This structural shift means that we are no longer dealing merely with periodic provocations, but with the implementation of a strategy moving toward a specific end goal. If the systematic alteration of the historical character of the holy sites is allowed to continue unchecked, it will not only permanently destroy Jerusalem\u2019s cultural and religious character, but also generate regional and global tensions that call into question the international legal order and diplomatic credibility itself.<\/p>\n
